How do we monitor air pollution?

Because air pollution is so important, we need to measure it to make sure we can keep the air quality as good as possible. Here in Oxfordshire we have two main ways to monitor our air quality.

Automatic monitoring stations

Automatic monitoring stations

Each district has automatic monitoring stations which measure the levels of pollutants in the air around them. This data is fed back to the councils automatically and also powers the data on this website. You can see what the air quality is like right now here.

There are also manual monitoring points which are placed all over Oxfordshire, these allow the councils to check on the level of toxins in different parts of the county. We also use this data on the website to provide a more detailed picture of how we are handling pollution.
