What can we do to reduce air pollution?

We can all make these small changes which help to reduce air pollution:

Turn the lights off when you leave a room

Turn the lights off when you leave a room

Why? This saves money and means the power station doesn’t need to burn as much fossil fuel to keep your lights on.

Turn off your TV and other electronics

Turn off your TV and other electronics

Why? TVs and electrical goods left on standby still use electricity, if no one is using it, turn it off!

Don't fill the kettle to the top

Don't fill the kettle to the top

Why? When you boil the kettle, only boil as much water as you need. Kettles need a lot of power to boil water, so by using less water, it takes the kettle less time and less power to boil the water and power stations don’t need to make as much power.

Use cars efficiently

Use cars efficiently

Why? Don’t use the car if you don’t need to. Try to avoid congested routes where pollution is at its worst. It may be more efficient to use the bus or train on certain routes.

Walk or cycle

Walk or cycle

Why? When you visit your friends, or go to school, walking or cycling there instead of driving will save fuel and keep you fit and healthy.
